I have been looking for the best type of portable refrigerator to buy for a camping trip. My family and I are planning on going camping for the weekend and we would be tenting on a forest reserve where there is no lodge anywhere near. This is my husband’s idea of family bonding and although we have a few reservations about leaving the city for a camping trip in the forest, it is the only time we can be together and it seems like a good idea to actually expose the kids on the great outdoors free from all the modern technology and busy city life.

I have been reading some refrigerator reviews and a lot of them chose the 12v refrigerator as the best portable refrigerator for camping trips. I have been planning on buying a regular chest freezer or cooler but it seems to me that a 12v refrigerator would be a good choice.

Here are three reasons why:

Portable - 12v refrigerators are very portable, you can even hand carry them.

Small – They are small so you wouldn’t have a problem fitting them in your car and it would save you space for other items you might want to bring in the trip.

Energy Efficient – They can run on very small amount of energy. In fact many 12v refrigerators can run on solar power alone. So during day time you can just charge them using solar power and you have a working refrigerator. During night time you can connect them to your car using the 12 volt cigarette lighter plug and voila, you already have a fridge. Since they don’t use up a lot of energy, you don’t have to worry about running your car batteries out.

They are so energy efficient that you would have plenty of battery left to ditch your husband and drive home if you should decide that the outdoor life is not for you.

A camping trip is perfect for a family vacation as it’s cheap and cheerful and a lot of fun. The excitement of living in a tent for a few days can be enough to keep kids happy in the evenings and the days can be spent hiking or just enjoying the great outdoors.

Many of the difficulties of camping can be turned into fun activities for kids if approached the right way – partly because of their novelty value. Cooking over a camping stove, lighting a fire in the evening, even washing the dishes can feel like something worth doing and the long trek to the campsite toilets after dark is an adventure in itself.

The food you choose for your trip should be suitable for campsite cooking and easy to prepare – especially if you find you have more eager ‘helpers’ than usual when you light up your camping stove! The thrill can wear off though, so make sure you have plenty of good camping food ideas planned well in advance of your trip.

There are always some things that can dampen the enthusiasm on a camping trip though, bad weather being the most obvious of them. If there is any chance that you will be stuck inside for any period of time you will want to make sure that you have a back up plan for entertainment – board games, books, quizzes or ghost stories!

It’s also worth considering the space you will need, especially if the weather turns bad. A bigger tent than you ‘need’ can be a huge benefit when you’re trapped inside it with several grouchy kids. An 8 man tent might sound too big but can be well worth it for a family of more than four or five members.

Camping can be a really worthwhile and fun way to spend quality time together and a little planning and preparation can go a long way to making your trip as enjoyable as possible, for everyone involved.

As a parent, I must admit that it is not easy to captivate my child’s attention and excitement. There are but a few things that can keep her entertained and happy for a period of time. One thing that I noticed though is that she loves jumping around. I am not too comfortable with the idea of buying her a trampoline as she may jump too far or too high. So what I did was I had a basketball hoop installed inside her bedroom. In that way, she can jump and shoot hoops all day without me worrying that she’ll injure herself. Plus, I can keep a good eye on her while she’s playing.

Playing with her new basketball ball is such a fun activity that it occupies almost half of her time every day. But I really don’t mind as long as it can keep her away from the television or from video games. This sport helps her get her daily dose of exercise and at the same time enhances her hand and eye coordination. I noticed how much my daughter loves her indoor basketball hoop and I love the idea that it is helping her become more productive. She enjoys playing with it and she squeals with joy every time she is able to make a perfect shot.

For her added safety, I have installed vinyl covered foam padding around the pole so that it wouldn’t hurt her if she collides with it. I also chose a hoop that has an easy to operate adjustment system. This allows me to change the level of the hoop without difficulty. I do this so that my child wouldn’t get bored easily with the game. It also helps develop her ability to strategize on how she can shoot the ball if the hoop is positioned higher. I can really say that this is a good sport for young children to play. It is not only fun, but it is also educational and interactive.

For a lot of people, there are few aspects of the rural landscape that are as familiar as the cupola atop a barn. Inevitably, on top of the cupola, there would be a weather vane. Perhaps it would be a rooster crowing. Perhaps it would be a racing horse galloping over the landscape. Whatever it was, that image is a part of the American cultural identity.

But in fact, cupolas actually originated in Europe. They are apexes – that is, the tippety top of another building, be it a church or a cattle barn. They orginated because people wanted lookout towers – a means to survey the miles around them and see who was approaching, how fast they were moving, and was coming with them. Even the ones that were built in, say, colonial New England still retain aspects of this original purpose. They have a window facing each direction.

The cupola was also a place to hang a bell (effectively transforming them into belfrys). Some people even used them to hang lights. Think of Paul Revere galloping through Boston based on the lanters that were displayed from atop of the local church. In this regard, the cupola wasn’t so much about surveying for potential visitors as it was with facilitating communication between friend and neighbors.

These days, you don’t find a lot of people seeking out their own cupola. Most houses and barns don’t have them – and if they do, it’s far more a decorative element than anything practical. We aren’t really worried about invaders any longer and if we want to talk to our neighbor, we simply pick up the telephone. Still, they remain as architectural reminders of our history. Those that are well-maintained can offer their owners a little getaway, a chance to climb above the worries and stresses of day-to-day life and simply appreciate a broad view of one’s surroundings. Like the proverbial weather vane so often turning on top of it, the cupola reminds us of our past.

A lot of people who are just getting started with butterfly gardening like to ask what type of butterfly they are likely to see. The answer really depends on what they plant.

For example, if you seed your garden with a lot of common milkweed, then you are almost sure to have plenty of Monarch butterflies coming by for a visit. This is because the Monarch uses milkweed both as a host plant on which to lay eggs and for food. For them, it is an indispensable plant, and if you are partial to this type of butterfly, there is nothing else you need to have in your yard or garden.

Another type of butterfly that you will often see are Swallowtail butterflies. While these all hail from a single genus, there are actually some five hundred sub species scattered across the planet. In fact, it is one of the most common butterflies that you can find anywhere on Earth.

Unlike Monarchs, the Swallowtail will avail itself of many different types of plants. So long as you have a little color in that garden, you’re pretty sure to have Swallowtails coming by. You can almost always tell them by their size – they are quite large and easy to see, measuring up to four and an half inches or more. As well, their hind wings have a distinctive tail to them – resembling that of a swallow’s. In addition, they are colorful, often with bright circles that resemble eyes on their wings.

While it doesn’t count as a rare viewing – you have to work pretty hard and pay close attention to find a rare butterfly in your garden – Swallowtail butterflies really do testify to the quality of your garden. Once you have them coming around, you can rest assured that you have created a nurturing and welcoming live butterfly garden.

There are many reasons to love camping ranging from the ability to enjoy fresh air and scenery, to all of the associated activities like hiking and swimming, to being able to sleep under the stars. But if you were to ask anyone to come up with a list of their favorite things about camping, chances are “barbecue food” would come out on top more often than not. Cooking with a great gas or charcoal grill is synonymous with camping, and you can’t fully enjoy your outdoor excursion without being able to barbecue delicious chicken wings or burgers. There is something enjoyably primal about being able to cook in the outdoors using such a simple method, and yet achieving complex flavors infused with the wonderful taste of natural smoke.

Take care of your barbecue – whenever you go camping it’s important to take extra care of your barbecue because it will be your primary cooking source for the entire trip. So take the steps necessary to maintain it properly, and that includes everything from cleaning to maintenance. You should also take plenty of fuel along whether you’re going with charcoal or propane for gas grills.

Safe handling – since you are cooking in the woods it’s always essential that you take the steps necessary to preserve the environment. Watch out for errant spark sore flames that can potentially cause forest fires. You will also want to limit the amount of smoke you create if you happen to be cooking at unusual hours so as not to disturb your neighbors. Always have a water bottle handy to control the flames, and it would be a good idea to have a fire extinguisher as well.

Handling your food – for some reason many people throw safe handling practices out the window when they aren’t in their own home kitchen. But remember all the rules regarding uncooked meat and safe cooking practices apply in the outdoors as well. Make sure to keep all of your food well contained in an adequate cooler until it is ready to be prepared. And don’t allow any of your utensils that have touched uncooked food to come into contact with cooked items either.

Lawn maintenance is a serious part of maintaining your property values and your community pride. Finding the right lawn maintenance company takes some time and effort to ensure that you are hiring a knowledgeable firm that takes great pride in the work that they do. Providing their customers with every aspect of lawn care is a must when you are hiring a firm to maintain your lawn.

Proper care of a lawn requires more than just a weekly mowing. Experts in lawn management understand the importance of weed control, soil nutrient management and watering schedules. Failure to monitoring every aspect of the health of your grass can destroy a once beautiful landscape.

When searching for the best firm for your needs be sure to choose one that provides every service that you may have a need for. Do they offer more than just lawn mowing? You may need many other services from this company throughout the year, regular fertilization, lawn maintenance, which includes edging and weed control, pet waste removal and also pest identification and management. Selecting a company that is educated in all of these areas and offers specific services for each one of these needs is the company that you will want to do business with.

There are numerous landscape specialists in the North Texas areas of Keller, Collyville, North Richland Hills, Southlake, Hurst, Euless and Bedford. For customers searching for services that include lawn mowing Southlake is in the service area of Lawn Connections. Give them a call and discuss your needs with one of their client specialists.

This company provides multiple services that will ensure high quality maintenance of your lawn. Mowing schedules and clipping heights are closely monitored depending on the weather conditions and lawn conditions. This ensures that your lawn does not become stressed and fail to thrive.

Trimming is an additional area that, if not tended to carefully, can spoil the groomed appearance of your landscaping. Although more time-consuming than simply mowing, proper trimming adds that final touch that creates a beautifully manicured lawn.

Edging is another area of lawn management that reputable, experienced lawn care companies include in their services. Sidewalks, curbs and driveways are an often forgotten detail in lawn maintenance. Properly edging these areas defines your space and imparts a fully manicured, cared for appearance that cannot be achieved otherwise. Proper lawn care is all about the details and hiring the company that cares most about the details will be in your best interest.

One of the most sought after collectibles are antique brass oil lamps. Admired by collectors for both their beauty and function these items are highly valued. The devices work by holding oil in a well that provides continuous light when the wick is lit. The wick travels down through the lamp into the reserve well of oil so it remains wet with the flammable fluid. One of the best ways to locate these items besides garage and estate sales is through online auction sites. In recent times, their popularity has boomed causing their value to rise.

Due to this rise in price, some manufacturers have been producing electric lamps that resemble antique brass oil lamps. In this way, the consumer is able to attain the retro look while simultaneously benefiting from the modern technology. Still other manufacturers have been refurbishing actual antique oil lamps that are wired with conversions so they can illuminate with electric light. These are especially attractive to those who desire an authentic antique but do not want the hassle of dealing with flammable liquids or are concerned about the risk of fire.

Another widely sought after form of these devices is the miner’s lamp. These are less ornate than other styles but are often desired by nautical enthusiasts. These lamps are furnished with a brass finish that contains clear glass through which the flame can shine. They are most often designed with a handle from which they be either held by a person or hung from a hook. They can be filled with any lantern oil to function. Sometimes these items are referred to as brass ship’s lanterns. While it may be difficult to locate an authentic brass oil lamp, there are many modern designers that are producing replicas that closely resemble the actual relics.

Picture this: it is a lovely, sunny day, the wind is sweet and the sea smells clean. And all you have to worry about is whether or not you put on enough sun tan lotion because you are sitting on a beach on one of a line of beach chairs, sprawled out and comfortable. The lawn chair is one of those lovely inventions meant purely for leisurely days with nothing to do other than stretch out and relax, maybe with a book, maybe with just the sun keeping you warm while you nap above the sand. Either way, what better piece of furniture is there out there? Other chairs either sink into the sand or get dirty so easily that it is rarely worth the amount of work it will take to get them clean again.

Most beach chairs are made so that you can fold them up to put away in the winter or to make it easier to take in your car driving down to the shore. Others, like what you would see at a resort, are often rigid and made of plastic for ease of cleaning because of the higher numbers of people that are likely to be using them. Some are meant to sprawl out in while some are just for sitting. In the end, it comes down to what you are looking for.

Luckily, you can usually find your perfect beach chair for an affordable price. A basic one with rubber straps crisscrossing to make the seat and back can be as low as eleven dollars. For your kids, they make miniature ones that come with umbrellas attached to keep them from getting too much sun. If you want something a little fancier, but still affordable, you can get heavy duty camp chairs that folds up into a backpack for thirty dollars. So even if your favorite spot is a mile down the beach from the parking lot, you can get it there with ease and enjoy the sun wherever you please.

Over the last few years GPS technology has made big leaps in navigation and positioning. If you are currently using this technology you already know how GPS devices can make our lives a lot easier. As golf is a sport that relies on measuring distances and positioning, amateur golfers (and professionals) have started to use golf gps systems to improve their game.

In order to understand how GPS will help your golf game, you must first understand what this technology is and how it works. GPS technology was originally intended to help the military find their way across remote regions of the world where detailed maps were not available. In the 1990s this technology first became available commercially to help drivers find the way to their destination without the use of a paper map.

When it comes to golf, this device works by giving you an overview of the entire golf course. The system can show you the exact yardage from the specific spot that you are standing on to the point of the course that you are targeting. This allows you to see the entire course as if you are flying above it. The best golf GPS systems help players find the right club and include features that allow you to better analyze your game.

Naturally this information can make a big difference in your skill as a golfer. A reduction in mistakes is perhaps the number one advantage of these units. Keep in mind that a small miscalculation in yardage could lead you to put the ball in shrubbery or other hazards. By knowing the correct yardage that you need to meet, you will be able to make the right decisions in regards to your swing and your club. It’s not unusual for players to report shaving 10 or more strokes off their score after using these units regularly over a period of a few months.

Of course, your personal results may vary. Have a look at my Garmin Approach G5 review for an overview of one of the top-rated golf GPS units available today. While this unit is a bit bulkier than some of the other models, it is one of the most feature-packed devices on the market and worth considering for beginners to advanced golfers.
