Portable 12v Refrigerator for Camping

By GuestPoster

I have been looking for the best type of portable refrigerator to buy for a camping trip. My family and I are planning on going camping for the weekend and we would be tenting on a forest reserve where there is no lodge anywhere near. This is my husband’s idea of family bonding and although we have a few reservations about leaving the city for a camping trip in the forest, it is the only time we can be together and it seems like a good idea to actually expose the kids on the great outdoors free from all the modern technology and busy city life.

I have been reading some refrigerator reviews and a lot of them chose the 12v refrigerator as the best portable refrigerator for camping trips. I have been planning on buying a regular chest freezer or cooler but it seems to me that a 12v refrigerator would be a good choice.

Here are three reasons why:

  1. Portable - 12v refrigerators are very portable, you can even hand carry them.
  2. Small – They are small so you wouldn’t have a problem fitting them in your car and it would save you space for other items you might want to bring in the trip.
  3. Energy Efficient – They can run on very small amount of energy. In fact many 12v refrigerators can run on solar power alone. So during day time you can just charge them using solar power and you have a working refrigerator. During night time you can connect them to your car using the 12 volt cigarette lighter plug and voila, you already have a fridge. Since they don’t use up a lot of energy, you don’t have to worry about running your car batteries out.

They are so energy efficient that you would have plenty of battery left to ditch your husband and drive home if you should decide that the outdoor life is not for you.
